故事发生在日本的江户时代，在八王子有一间飞脚问屋，这里工作这两个年轻人弁藏（松山研一 饰）和宗次（早乙女太一 饰）。这两个人勤劳率直，而他们的另一个身份竟然是盗贼团伙“赤目一味”的成员。赤目由辰五郎（国村隼 饰）所创立，他带领手下专门从事劫富济贫的义举，加上其本人刚正不阿，因此深得弁藏等人的敬重。辰五郎临去世时，原打算将组织托付给弁藏和宗次，谁知辰五郎的师弟甚三郎（成宫宽贵 饰）坐上了赤目的第一把交椅。由于无法认同甚三郎为了金钱而巧取豪夺的行径，弁藏和宗次与之决裂，踏上了漫漫的旅途。而他们的故事也正是在旅途中渐次发生的…… 本片根据小野夏芽（オノ・ナツメ）的漫画改编。。When a casino owning dog named Charlie is murdered by his rival Carface, he finds himself in Heaven basically by default since all dogs go to heaven. However, since he wants to get back at his killer, he cons his way back to the living with the warning that doing that damns him to Hell. Once back, he teams with his old partner, Itchy to prep his retaliation.
