Each week viewers see the gritty reality of life in a New York City Police unit as the officers go about their work with a grim determination. Two partners, Detectives Andy Sipowicz and John Kelley (later replaced by Bobby Simone), are the central characters in this weekly police drama, and personify very different approaches to their difficult job. Sipowicz's brash gruffness (...。龍(黃秋生飾)夜讀《牡丹亭》，夢見書中女主角杜麗娘，生愛慕之意，時妻子夜歸，對他不甚理睬。學生麗(崔家寶飾)穿上戲服飾演杜麗娘，龍見麗與夢中的麗娘相似，大感愕然。龍為哄妻子，特意買名貴首飾送她，但妻子冷言相向，並承認有外遇，提出離婚。 龍心灰意冷流連圖書館，巧遇麗，二人意外被困，徹夜互吐心事，漸生情愫。龍為免影響升職，勸麗收斂感情，自己亦加以壓抑，但始終情不自禁。事情敗露，龍不獲升職。經院長規勸，龍恍然大悟，坦然向麗提出分手。。
