林欣（罗慧娟）投考大学失败，投入陆福安之时装公司，得姜舜苓（戚美珍）鼓励，学习时装设计，欣视苓为恩师。欣之要好男朋友方浩明（邵仲衡）移情别恋，追求欣的知已阮洁庄（梁佩玲），且奉子成婚。欣伤痛不已，幸得邻居关学文（黎明）安慰开解，其实文对欣早有好感，但文性格内向，一直不敢向欣表达爱意。 苓因工作关系认识了记者夏祖荫（任达华），两人互相欣赏，很快便打得火热。后因苓因公事与陆福安反目，遂把心一横，与欣另起炉灶。祖深表支持，欣与祖接触渐多，互生好感。 另一方面，陆福安怀恨在心，横施手段令苓公司陷经济危机。苓个性倔强，不惜以肉体换取订单。祖鄙视苓之行径，对欣产生爱意。苓事业爱情皆失意，迁怒于欣，对欣之家人进行一连串的报复。适值欣家中正处多事之秋，祖却获得一难得机会到非洲拍摄特辑，祖要求欣同往，并放下机票，暗示如在机场见不到欣，两人关系便告终结，欣难以抉择……。Not far down the highway from his childhood home in Texas, Nathan’s car breaks down on the drive to his freshman year of art school in Los Angeles.
